A new series of talks at Decatur ISD is helping administrators improve the work the district does to serve and teach students.
Dr. Karen Rue, interim superintendent, has started a series of Superintendent Chats with various stakeholders across DISD, including new and veteran teachers, parents, and students. These informal chats have allowed her and other DISD administrators, including Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction Dr. Michelle Wooten, to learn what's working well at DISD and where can the district identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
While all the sessions provided valuable insights, Dr. Rue has found the conversations with students particularly beneficial.
"The overarching purpose of this is for all of us to learn what your experiences are like as students," Dr. Rue told a group of 6th, 7th, and 8th graders at McCarroll Middle School. "There is no one who knows what it is like to be a student better than students. As adults, we were here and can see it, but no one knows your experience better than you."
The Superintendent Chats will continue throughout the 2024-25 school year, with one more planned for the fall semester and two more planned for the spring semester.
