Author Sean Penix talks with Rann Elementary Students in the library

A visit by a published author is helping elementary students at Rann Elementary learn about the power of positivity.

The author of "Positron," a sweet children's book written by Sean Penix, helps young people tap into positive mindsets and become a force for good in their lives.

“Everyday in life, your story is being told and written," he told a group of third graders during his visit to the Rann library. "Everyday you have a chance to be a positive influence. If you miss it, tomorrow you’ll get another chance. Each day, there are opportunities for simple, random acts of kindness.”

It’s a book Rann students were already familiar with.

For the first day of school, Rann Principal Tanya Ledger bought a copy of the book, which she also read to classes, for all students at Rann.

As part of his visit, Sean gave practical advice for ways Rann students to spread kindness, to empower others, and to be an inspirational influence inside and outside of school. He also answered student questions about the publishing process and his motivation for writing the book.

When asked by one first grader for advice on how to become a positron, the author kept it simple.

“You have a choice everyday to make somebody smile,” he replied. “Do it. That’s it.”
