District Education Improvement Council (DEIC)

What is the DEIC?
Our DEIC plays an important role in assisting with the growth and improvement of Decatur ISD. The parents, community members, and staff serving on the DEIC provide feedback and recommendations to district leadership on how we move forward together to ensure Decatur ISD is an exceptional district in which to live, learn, and work.

What does a typical DEIC meeting entail?
We begin each meeting with a “State of the District” update from either our superintendent or assistant superintendent. After the update, we often rotate members through small groups led by district administrators on topics such as finance, technology, or student learning. Administrators might ask for feedback on next steps, communication gaps, strategy, etc. We also share reports on topics such as student achievement, graduation, bullying prevention, academic calendar development, and professional development.

How can I get involved?
Nominations and elections are held for DEIC each spring as committee members serve two-year rotating terms. If you are interested in becoming a member, contact Dr. Michelle Wooten at michelle.wooten@decaturisd.us.

What do DEIC members do?
- Share the voice and perspective of the stakeholder group they represent during meetings
- Work in large group and small group settings
- Serve for two-year team
- Attend four meetings a year
